# Second Partition (1793)

Russia and Prussia seized more Commonwealth territory. Lithuania lost further lands and the state became nearly impossible to defend.

## Why it matters
The second seizure removed most of the Commonwealth’s remaining eastern lands and reduced the state to dependence on Russia. Its scale directly provoked the final insurrection led by Tadeusz Kościuszko.
